What is spatial correlation between grid squares?

This refers to whether data in two neighbouring grid squares can be compared in the analysis process.

In detail

The information in UKCP09 climate change projections is probabilistic. For this reason, it would not be possible to obtain changes over larger regions by averaging changes at the same probability levels in neighbouring grid squares. See inappropriate uses of the projections.

Also the Weather Generator treats each grid square as a separate entity and therefore the interaction between two neighbouring grid squares is not taken into account, hence they do not spatially correlate.

However, some of the marine information can be directly averaged across grid squares because they are not probabilistic.
