Why are some land areas not in land grid cells?
All 25 km grid squares are defined as land or sea,
based on whether a majority of their area consists of land or sea. This
inevitably means that some coastal locations of the UK are not included
with land grid cells.
In detail
Where this occurs, the User Interface will automatically default to the
nearest land grid cell that is most appropriate for your selection. It
should not be assumed that data for locations that do not have an
overlying land grid square is less robust that those that do. It should
also not be assumed that locations that do not have an overlying land
grid square will be subject to inundation by the sea in the future; sea
level projections for points around the UK are provided as part of
UKCP09 and these should be used to consider future risks to coastal
flooding.
