What is the baseline period used for UKCP09?

UKCP09 uses 1961–1990 as the baseline period. This means that the projections of changes are reported relative to the average climate experienced between 1961 and 1990.

This is the same baseline period used for UKCIP02 and was selected based on results of a user consultation exercise. The observed climate information provides a 25 km resolution gridded dataset which shows the baseline climate for the UK.
