Does the Weather Generator reflect the topography of the local area in the future projections?

Yes, to some extent, on a gridded basis.

In detail

The weather generator uses 5 km x 5 km gridded observed 1961–1990 data in order to train the baseline data. The gridded observed data is derived from a national network of weather stations. The records at each weather station will reflect the topography of where it is located, i.e. if the weather station is at the top of a mountain the weather data collected from it will reflect its elevation and situation. If there are no weather stations in one particular grid square then the data is extrapolated into that grid from the surrounding grid squares. This means the uncertainty associated with the gridding process (and hence how reliably topography is reflected) increases in parts of the UK with fewer weather stations.
