Marine regions
A division of the seas around the UK based on the Regional Reporting Areas in the UK Government and Devolved Administrations report Charting Progress,
but not limited to UK waters. The Charting Progress Regional Reporting
Areas (RRAs) were based upon work developed at the Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) to designate
distinct marine areas around the UK based upon ecological and
oceanographic features.
In detail
One of three pre-defined types of aggregated area used in UKCP09. Probabilistic climate projections
have been provided as an average of all UKCP09 25 km grid squares that
are within each marine region. The UKCP09 marine regions are slightly
modified from the Charting Progress Regional Reporting Areas (RRAs) in order to:
- reflect that the total extent of the UKCP09 25 km grid is smaller than the total area covered by the RRAs;
- extend the UKCP09 marine regions across the political boundaries
in Charting Progress to the coasts of Ireland and mainland Europe; and
- include the area of the UKCP09 model immediately west of Ireland.
