Stochastic

A stochastic process is also known as a random process. In developing the UKCP09 Weather Generator, a process is the stochastic technique used for sampling data from a given distribution, based on the use of random numbers.

In detail

The Weather Generator in UKCP09 uses stochastic processes to generate synthetic time series of weather variables. This stochastic / random process is one where the state of the system at one time (e.g. the weather today) does not completely determine the state at the next time (e.g. tomorrow).
