How do I load the observed trends gridded data into ArcGIS?
The Observed trends are based on gridded datasets that have been generated for a range of climatic variables, covering the UK on a 5 km x 5 km grid for the period from 1914. They are available from the UK Met Office website – you will need to register to access the data.
In detail
Use the process below to load the files into ArcGIS:
- Click on Arc Toolbox, (red toolbox icon) so this appears as an additional menu.
- Click on Conversion Tools – To Raster – ASCII to Raster
- In the Input space, browse to the text file, select and click open. The Output space should load automatically. Do not edit this box. Keep Output data as Integer.
- Click OK. A box should appear saying it is processing. When complete, you should see a map of the UK appear on your screen.
Please note this process will vary depending on which GIS software package you are using.
