How do I load the observed trends gridded data into ArcGIS?

The Observed trends are based on gridded datasets that have been generated for a range of climatic variables, covering the UK on a 5 km x 5 km grid for the period from 1914. They are available from the UK Met Office website – you will need to register to access the data.

In detail

Use the process below to load the files into ArcGIS:

  1. Click on Arc Toolbox, (red toolbox icon) so this appears as an additional menu.

  2. Click on Conversion Tools – To Raster – ASCII to Raster

  3. In the Input space, browse to the text file, select and click open. The Output space should load automatically. Do not edit this box. Keep Output data as Integer.

  4. Click OK. A box should appear saying it is processing. When complete, you should see a map of the UK appear on your screen.

Please note this process will vary depending on which GIS software package you are using.
