UKCP09 Decision tree

The UKCP09 decision tree will help you to decide which element of UKCP09 you should consider using as part of your vulnerability, impacts or adaptation assessment. It is important to understand the nature and scope of what you are trying to achieve in undertaking the assessment (e.g. objectives and desired outcomes). It is also recommended that you use historical climate information to understand your vulnerability to the current climate before you begin work with the UKCP09 projections.

We suggest you begin the adaptation process with a risk management tool such as the UKCIP Adaptation Wizard. UKCP09 fits into Stages 2 and 3 of the Wizard – see the diagram below.

You should explore the full range of UKCP09 information before you delve into the detailed climate data. Experience has shown that many users find the higher level information such as key findings, maps and images are sufficient for their needs, and are useful in helping to select the elements of climate information appropriate to their assessment. The UKCP09 guidance, including this decision tree, should always be considered when making your selection.
